NIA, QPEC Inks MOU for Comprehensive Study of Addalam Hydropower Project

NIA Central Office, Quezon City – In efforts of studying and investigating more renewable energy sources in the country, the National Irrigation Administration entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Quirino Power Energy Corporation (QPEC) for Addalam Hydropower Project in Brgy. San Leonardo, Aglipay, Quirino Province. The MOU signing was held on January 11, 2016 at the NIA Central Office, Quezon City. National Irrigation Administration was represented by NIA Administrator Dr. Florencio F. Padernal while Quirino Power Energy Corporation was embodied by QPEC President Ms. Michelle N. Chua.
Through the MOU, QPEC signified its intention to submit a proposal for the 3.6MW Addalam Hydropower Project and shall undertake full blown studies to it. These will further include the most cost effective development, construction, and operation of the various components including irrigation, power generation, and domestic water supply.
As stipulated with the MOU, National Irrigation Administration permitted QPEC to conduct a comprehensive study on the economic, financial, and technical viability of Addalam Hydropower Project. This were aligned to NIA’s mandates in constructing a multi-purpose water resources projects that will not only satisfy the irrigation factor but also will address renewable energy sources, flood control, drainage, etc. in the particular area.
Also present during the MOU signing were Quirino Lone District Representative Congressman Dakila Carlo E. Cua, Mr. Paul Ng, NIA Deputy Administrator for Engineering and Operations Engr. Erdolfo B. Domingo, and NIA Legal Services Department Manager Atty. Genever M. Dionio.
