NIA’s Hands-on Implementation of Irrigation Projects Nationwide

 

NIA Central Office – True to its commitment of providing efficient, reliable, and sustainable irrigation service to the Filipino farmers despite the prevalence of pandemic situation, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) ensures timely and effective management of its irrigation projects nationwide.

For the month of May to August 2021, the Agency is set to conduct numerous inaugurations, groundbreaking ceremonies, field visits, and site inspections to closely monitor the status of all construction and operation and maintenance (O&M) activities on ground.

Following is the list of all projects that can be inaugurated and visited in the next three months.

NIA Top Management Officials, headed by Administrator Ricardo R. Visaya, assured that the Agency remains committed to the realization of its mandate. The Administrator also reiterated his directive to all regional officials to fast-track project implementation because delays in project construction mean depriving our farmers with the best irrigation service that they deserve.

The newly completed P645-million Benliw SRIP in Ubay, Bohol is expected to provide timely and reliable irrigation water supply to 400 hectares of agricultural land in barangays of Benliw, Emelda, Cagting, and Sinandigan, benefitting 600 farmers and their families. The project will be inaugurated on May 27, 2021.

The P662-million Upper Saug River Irrigation Project located at Barangay Cabidianan, New Corella, Davao Del Norte aims to provide timely and reliable irrigation water supply to 980 hectares of agricultural land in Barangays Suawon, Sto. Nino, Limbaan, Poblacion, and Carcor. The project will benefit 400 farmers and their families.

The Lower Sibuguey II River Irrigation System Extension Project is under the direct the supervision of Zamboanga Sibugay Irrigation Management Office. It has a total project cost of P31.8 million under Line Projects CY 2017 Fund Source. The project construction, comprising fabrication, supply, delivery, and installation of barrage gates, is projected to be completed by July 2021.

Two solar powered pump projects of UPRIIS Division IV are being implemented in San Isidro and Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija by Equator Energy Corporation. The construction of P17.78-million San Isidro Solar Power Pump will cover 314 hectares of agricultural land to be rehabilitated, benefitting 196 farmer-members of four Irrigators Associations. On the other hand, the P20.461M Peñaranda Solar Power Pump covers 228 hectares of agricultural land, benefitting 143 farmer-members of three Irrigators Associations in the locality. Both projects will be inaugurated on June 24, 2021.
