RICE AT P25 PER KILO AVAILABLE FROM NEGROS OCCIDENTAL FARMER-IRRIGATORS

NIA Central Office – Federation of Irrigators Association of Central Negros-Bago River Irrigation System (FIACN-BRIS) of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VI, headed by Acting Regional Manager Jonel B. Borres, sold rice for Php 25 per kilogram (kg) in partnership with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental on “Bigas ng Bayan” opening day on October 12, 2023 at Food Terminal Market, North Capitol Road, Bacolod City.The Php 25 per kilo rice was made possible through the convergence of all sectors of society. The FIACN-BRIS of the Negros-Occidental Irrigation Management Office (IMO), led by Federation President Pedro Limpangog, allotted the 10 percent of their total production to the Negrenses at Php 25 per kilo that can be availed up to 5 kgs per consumer only. Priority consumers were senior citizens, indigents, and persons with disabilities (PWDs). At least 455 individuals availed of the low-priced rice on its opening day.Prior to this, the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, tapped the FIACN-BRIS in its Dagyaw Project, an initiative that promotes farm-level productivity interventions. Guillen, Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Water Resource Management Office (DENR-WRMO) Undersecretary Dr. Carlos Primo C. David, and National Water Resources Board (NWRB) Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Executive Director Atty. Ricky A. Arzadon sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for repurposing NIA’s water rights on October 4, 2023 at the Malacañang Palace.The MOA signing aims to achieve the optimum utilization of irrigation water, not just for agricultural use but also for power generation, bulk water supply, aquaculture, recreation, tourism, and many more which will redound to the generation of bigger revenue for the Agency. NIA INTENSIFIES DEVELOPMENT OF SOLAR-POWERED IRRIGATION PROJECTS

 NIA Central Office – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA), headed by Acting Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen, intensifies its continuous pursuit on the benefits of developing and constructing solar-powered irrigation projects in 183 sites nationwide already in the pipeline for CY 2024. An additional 791 potential sites for solar-powered irrigation projects are being proposed to irrigate about 39,694 hectares of agricultural land throughout the country.For CY 2023, there are 147 potential irrigation sites for solar power amounting to Php 1,643,583,002. Of which, NIA already completed the construction of 17 solar-powered irrigation projects amounting to Php 117,360,002 as of September 15, 2023. These projects provide reliable irrigation water supply to 830 hectares of agricultural land nationwide benefitting 801 farmers and their families.With the modernization and innovation thrusts of the Agency, NIA utilizes the full potential of its irrigation facilities, dams, and reservoirs for agro-tourism, aquaculture, and renewable energy sources.
